Our secret is finally out! Man, was it hard to keep that one in! 😉 TJ and I could not be more excited to get the news that we are having our first baby! We had been trying for around 4 months, so we were thrilled to find out that we were pregnant so soon. So many couples have trouble getting pregnant or can’t even have children, so we feel completely blessed that God has trusted us with this precious gift.
The day I found out, I had missed my period by two days. When I did the pregnancy test, I tried my best not to peak before the 3 minutes were up- however I could see from the corner of my eye a red line on the test. I figured it was just the control line, however to my surprise it was positive within seconds. I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock for a good 15 minutes, OMG….I am going to be a Mom! What an awesome feeling.
Right after taking the test, I had to head to class. I was thinking the whole drive, should I take another test? I want to confirm we are truly pregnant and that it wasn’t a false positive. I quickly pulled into CVS, grabbed a ‘week predictor’ pregnancy test and then quickly got to school before I was about to be late. In between class, I took another test and surely enough, it said 2-3 weeks pregnant! Woo Hoo. This really is happening.
I had plans for that night to meet up with two of my girlfriends for dinner, but I knew I had to work the next two days and couldn’t imagine me not going home to surprise TJ and celebrate! I quickly text my girls that I wasn’t going to make it and started brainstorming some ideas. I headed over to the local dollar store and picked up 10 balloons- 5 pink and 5 blue and a poster paper. I went home and wrote up a sign saying, “Welcome Home Daddy… Mommy’s Pregnant”. I also attached both pregnancy tests from earlier that morning.
I was so nervous to tell him, but also so excited. I made sure TJ told me exactly when he left work, so that I could be waiting at the top of the stairs with the sign. I even set up my phone to record his reaction (which I am SO GLAD I did- what a cool thing to look back on!) When I saw his car pull up, I quickly ran to the top of the stairs, turned off the light and waited…
When he first came into the house he said he didn’t know what was going on. It took him a second to process and read the sign before saying anything. Then I saw the BIG smile. “We’re positive?!”, he said. Then proceeded to ask how long I knew. He had so many questions, it was so sweet. I told him we would discuss it all later at dinner, another surprise I had planned. It was such a special moment and one I am sure we will both never forget!
