Hi everyone! I am so excited to finally be able to share our NEW guest bedroom with you all! We are currently obsessing over the farmhouse theme, which carries throughout our house. I wasn’t quite sure how the industrial décor would look when incorporated into our farmhouse design… but I have to say, I am loving it. At the bottom of this post I have included links to the exact sources so you can shop the look of our room, if you like. Links are clickable and shop-able!
This guest room is extra special to us because it is our “Edison” room. When TJ and I got married, we got married in a rustic barn. The barn is actually an antique shop during the weekdays and a wedding venue on weekends. We of course, had to have a piece of furniture from where we got married, to help us always remember our special day. When we were looking in the antique store, we stumbled across a beautiful brown chest. We were instantly drawn to it and knew it was the perfect item for our new home. What was even cooler was when we were leaving and the ‘picker’ of the furniture ran after us. He said, “Hey, I saw that you just bought that chest. Let me tell you a neat story about it…” He went on to tell us that this exact chest had been Thomas Edison’s! On the inside of the chest is a very old and ripped piece of paper that has Thomas Edison’s name and address on it. Edison was from West Orange, NJ so it makes sense that it really was his! (Since we live in NJ and are not far from where his original home was). Because we loved this chest so much, we wanted to kind of “pay a tribute” to it in our new guest bedroom. Hence the Edison lamps and the Edison poster hanging on the wall. I think that it really ties the industrial theme together and looks great next to our awesome chest.
My favorite part of this room design is how nice the shiplap looks against the painted walls. (If anyone is interested in me doing a post on how to install ship lap, leave me a comment below) I love the wall color we went with. We were between a brownish tone or a more taupe color, but I was really happy with the color we chose to use. The wall color we used was called Earthnut by Behr paint. I think the contrast looks great in the room and really makes the shiplap wall pop.
