Baby’s first Easter basket

Easter is one of my favorite holidays because it is one of the most meaningful ones. It’s the day that we celebrate Christ’s resurrection and it is a day that is very important to my family and I. As adults we understand the true meaning behind this day, however as a young child many of my memories revolved around bunnies, dying Easter eggs and searching all over our backyard for hidden eggs.. This is also one of the many reasons why I love Easter. It is a holiday that allows your child to use their imagination and take their mind to new places. Of course we look forward to the day when Landon is old enough to understand the real meaning behind Easter Sunday, but until then we will try to make this day as fun and special as possible.

Growing up, I always looked forward to waking up on Easter morning to a giant Easter basket full of surprises and many of my favorite things. Every year my parents would buy me a Disney mug, which was part of a collection that Disney had going at the time. Every year it was a different theme- full of disney princesses or stories from my favorite movies. I still have these mugs and cherish them, as they are now keepsakes, but the best part about them is that they bring me right back to that special moment. Even though Landon is only 5 months old, I still wanted to make a basket for him because I wanted to start a tradition with him and hope that one day he will be just as excited to open his Easter basket as I was!

I chose practical items to put in his basket, things that I knew he would use (with the exception of the adorable bunny ears- couldn’t resist)! I am also really excited for L to try out the teething egg, I have read great things about it! I love that it comes with a clip, which makes it easy to pin on his pants when we are on the go. My favorite item in his basket was my ‘all-time favorite’ Easter book growing up called, The Country Bunny. I had to contain myself from reading it as soon as it came in the mail. I want to save it for Easter. I love all of the images in the book and remember them to this very day. I chose not to include a stuffed animal bunny in this basket, only because he already has one- but it was hard to resist all of the cute plush animals in the stores right now. Lastly, I love the monogrammed basket cover that I found at Target with his initial on it. I plan to keep this basket and use it year after year because it is just so perfect!

Below is a list of all of the items found in Landon’s basket, along with the links to where we purchased them!

Bumpdate: 38 weeks {& Nursery Tour}

So today actually marks 38 weeks of pregnancy! Baby is “officially” due in 2 weeks, however the Doctor thinks he will be here any day now! We have a check up appointment today at 2pm and I am really excited. Last Tuesday the doctor told me that I was already 2-3cm dilated and 70% effaced, so I am hoping for some more good news today. I have been feeling cramping and mild pain over the last day or two, so I have a feeling his arrival is right around the corner (hoping mommy’s judgement is right!)

This past Tuesday, TJ and I celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary! October is our special month. He proposed to me in October, we got married in October, my birthday is in October and seems like baby’s will be too! I LOVE the fall, its my favorite time of year! We ended up going out to dinner at a restaurant called Pure in Parsipanny. We joked around that the last few weeks have been the first time we have had a ‘social life’ in a while- since we made sure to get in any last minute movie trips and other things we wanted to do before baby arrives.

Dad prepared some freezer meals for us, so that we don’t have to rush around cooking the first week baby is here. I finished my last day of work yesterday and I am officially on maternity leave. The house is clean, the pack and play is ready, the nursery is tidy and we are SET-TO-GO!

We can’t wait to meet you precious little one. Your little kicks are becoming big ones and you are running out of room in there! It is OK to come out now!  See you soon 😉 Love, MOM

Cat’s out of the bag… We’re PREGNANT!

Our secret is finally out! Man, was it hard to keep that one in! 😉 TJ and I could not be more excited to get the news that we are having our first baby! We had been trying for around 4 months, so we were thrilled to find out that we were pregnant so soon. So many couples have trouble getting pregnant or can’t even have children, so we feel completely blessed that God has trusted us with this precious gift.

The day I found out, I had missed my period by two days. When I did the pregnancy test, I tried my best not to peak before the 3 minutes were up- however I could see from the corner of my eye a red line on the test. I figured it was just the control line, however to my surprise it was positive within seconds. I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock for a good 15 minutes, OMG….I am going to be a Mom! What an awesome feeling.

Right after taking the test, I had to head to class. I was thinking the whole drive, should I take another test? I want to confirm we are truly pregnant and that it wasn’t a false positive. I quickly pulled into CVS, grabbed a ‘week predictor’ pregnancy test and then quickly got to school before I was about to be late. In between class, I took another test and surely enough, it said 2-3 weeks pregnant! Woo Hoo. This really is happening.

I had plans for that night to meet up with two of my girlfriends for dinner, but I knew I had to work the next two days and couldn’t imagine me not going home to surprise TJ and celebrate! I quickly text my girls that I wasn’t going to make it and started brainstorming some ideas. I headed over to the local dollar store and picked up 10 balloons- 5 pink and 5 blue and a poster paper. I went home and wrote up a sign saying, “Welcome Home Daddy… Mommy’s Pregnant”. I also attached both pregnancy tests from earlier that morning.

I was so nervous to tell him, but also so excited. I made sure TJ told me exactly when he left work, so that I could be waiting at the top of the stairs with the sign. I even set up my phone to record his reaction (which I am SO GLAD I did- what a cool thing to look back on!) When I saw his car pull up, I quickly ran to the top of the stairs, turned off the light and waited…

When he first came into the house he said he didn’t know what was going on. It took him a second to process and read the sign before saying anything. Then I saw the BIG smile. “We’re positive?!”, he said. Then proceeded to ask how long I knew. He had so many questions, it was so sweet. I told him we would discuss it all later at dinner, another surprise I had planned. It was such a special moment and one I am sure we will both never forget!
