Well, the last two weeks certainly have been the busiest, yet happiest days of our lives! On Monday, October 24th our precious baby boy, Landon Carter Speer was born! I was on the schedule to be induced at 5am Monday morning. We woke up, gathered all of our belongings and headed to the hospital. I was nervous but overall excited just to meet our little guy. After checking into the hospital and getting to our room, things started pretty quickly.
By 6am I had already seen the doctor, had my water broken, and was started on IV Pitocin to induce contractions. Because I was already 4cm dilated, I didn’t have to endure much laboring. I had around 30 minutes of mild-moderate contractions and then was given the option for the epidural. After getting the epidural, the pain went away completely, however I suddenly was aware of how ‘numb’ I felt. I felt completely paralyzed from the waist down. It was a very scary feeling for me and gave me anxiety the entire morning. My legs felt like they were 500 lbs each and I could not even move them. After receiving the epidural I also ended up having a severe allergic reaction and began to get extremely itchy. I had never felt this itchy in my entire life and I wanted to practically rip my skin off! After 2 medications (a long hour later) I was feeling comfortable and the itching finally went away.
After five hours went by, the doctor told me I was already dilated to 10cm and that we were ready to push! I suddenly got very nervous. I was happy and scared at the same time. I cried tears of joy in anticipation. The nurse was not around at that moment, so the doctor took TJ and asked him to help out. The doctor said I was going to have this baby within minutes. I still could not feel a thing (which made it so hard for me to know when & how to push- I felt like I was just going through the motions). Miraculously, by God’s grace, somehow I pushed out that baby super fast! After 3 full rounds of pushes, baby was here! We couldn’t believe it.
Overall, my birth process was an amazing experience and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! Getting to finally meet Landon was such a special moment for our family and made everything worth it. He is such a precious baby and we are so blessed to have become his parents!
Below are some of the pictures that capture a day we will never forget… Landon Carter Speer, we love you so much! Welcome to the world, precious little one!
