Today I wanted to give a little love to the most amazing man in my life, my husband. You may have captured a bit of his character throughout my other posts, but now you will get to know a little more about him. His name is TJ. Yes, TJ…nothing else and no it is not short for anything. He gets this question a lot, even when he travels! Who would have known such a short name would cause so many issues. But he’s a simple man and his name suits him perfectly.
We knew each other back from high school but never really got together to hang out, mostly because I was always dating someone (truth, sorry) ;P. TJ used to see me at the basketball games because I was dating one of the players. He said he never really liked “B” because 1-He started ahead of him in the game and 2- Because he was dating me! One day my mom was ‘testing out’ new churches in the area and we happened to stumble upon the church where TJ’s father pastored at. At the end of the service TJ and his brother Jesse came over to say hi to my friend Christina and I. We talked a little bit that day, but not in person again for around five years. We had exchanged numbers, so we both had each others in our phone. Sometime back, TJ was planning a trip to Vegas with some friends so he text me to ask about how my trip was when I went there and what places I enjoyed visiting. This got us chatting a bit. But we really didn’t talk much again until TJ went on his mission trip to Bolivia.
One night as I was preparing to go out on a date with some guy, literally… a video [clickable link] popped up on my Facebook feed of TJ’s trip. It caught my eye so I watched it. I couldn’t get it out of my head all night. In fact, I was completed distracted on my date because all I wanted to do was talk to TJ. This was the kind of guy I had been searching for my entire life. A man who was selfless, loving and most importantly, a man of God.
So now you’re probably wondering, what happened next? Well it’s kind of funny. As soon as I saw the video, I commented on it to try to get his attention. As you can see it was 5:48pm, and I was getting picked up at 6pm to go on a date with another guy! Kind of comical now looking back now.
I came home that night hoping to hear a response from TJ, but nothing.. I gave it another day and then decided to text him (since I still had his number). It was a Sunday and I wanted to ask how his trip went. Once he replied, it was non-stop talking all day for one full week. I felt like I had known him for years. We talked about anything and everything. We made plans to finally meet up at my apartment in Pequannock that following Friday. I was so nervous but also very excited. He came over and we talked for a few hours and then watched the 2012 Olympic’s opening ceremony together. By the end of the night we were sitting up close next to each other, holding hands. It was perfect! That was a day that I know TJ and I both keep vivid in our mind and close to our hearts. That was the night it all began.
Today, I sit here feeling beyond blessed to have this man in my life. I am still in awe that he is actually my husband and the man I will be with for the rest of my life. He is the man who will be an amazing father to my kids and the man who is the best friend I could ever ask for. He was a gift given to me by God and I will cherish his presence in my life forever.
I love you TJ!
